WePlay! Bukovel Minor: Everything you need to know about the $300,000 tournament

WePlay! Bukovel Minor - Day 1 Recap

After the holidays are over, it is time to start the new year with the second DPC Minor. Needless to say, this is going to be a very important tournament. Even though there are still a lot of Majors and Minors left, every single DPC point is priceless and with a prize pool of $300,000 and 660 DPC’s up for grabs you are sure teams are going to be taking this tournament seriously. With that said, let’s take a look at what can we expect from the upcoming WePlay! Bukovel Minor, which runs from Jan 9 – 12, 2020.

Overview & Format

Eight of the best teams in the world will be taking part in the WePlay! Bukovel Minor. They are divided into two GSL groups consisted of four teams each. Every single game up to the Grand Final will be in Bo3 format. With four teams in each group, only two of them can advance into the next round, with the bottom two teams from each group eliminated from the tournament.

Although the winner will earn $72,000, the more important prize here is a spot at the Leipzig Major. After all, this tournament will provide a higher prize pool and DPC points, which is what every single team is looking for.

As you can expect from such a tournament, we will get to see some of the best talents in Dota 2. Jorien Sheever van der Heijden, Owen “ODPixel” Davies, Toby TobiWan Dawson are just the tip of the iceberg.

WePlay! Bukovel Minor – The Groups

Even though some people won’t agree, we think that the two groups are not that well balanced. Here are the teams in Group A:

  • Ninjas in Pyjamas
  • Royal Never Give Up
  • Geek Fam
  • Team Spirit

By the looks of it, Ninjas in Pyjamas is the strongest team here. However, Geek Fam and RNGU are more than capable of upsetting their plans. In fact, the SEA team is being spoke about as a potential winner of this Minor. They definitely have the firepower to do it, so it all comes down to the proper execution.

Group B consists of the following teams:

  • Nigma
  • Gambit Esports
  • Fighting PandaS
  • Furia Esports

This is definitely the group of death because every single team here can win the tournament. Although many people might say that this will be a walk in the park for Nigma, that’s far from the truth. In fact, judging by their recent performance, we can safely say that Gambit is the strongest team here.
