We’re just one day into 2020, it’s time to take a step back and see what happened Dota 2 in 2019.
Needless to say, 2019 was one of the best years for every Dota 2 fan out there. Many amazing things happened, but it’s safe to say that the highlight of the year was OG’s The International 2019 run. Not only did they become the first team ever to win two TIs, but they did two times in a row.
With that said, let’s take a look at some of the best carries of the past year.
Anathan “ana” Pham
The first spot on our list was pretty obvious. Anathan “ana” Pham is undeniably one of the best players in the world. He has played a major role in the two TI titles of OG, especially during TI9, where he debuted the Io carry. Everyone was very skeptical at first, but the Australian prodigy played the hero absolutely flawlessly.
As a result, he and his team were able to catch every single team off-guard. Without knowing what to do against this setup, OG ripped through the competition like a hot knife through butter.
It will be very interesting to follow this incredible Dota 2 talent in 2020. Unfortunately, we haven’t see him in action since TI9 because OG decided to take a long break. Having said that, he and his team are reportedly back for the third set of the DPC qualifiers, and we might finally get to see more carry Io.
Zhang “Eurus” Chengjun
The Chinese Dota 2 scene has been very strong in the past year, with teams from the region taking top spots throughout the DPC season. Although Vici Gaming didn’t shine too much during TI9, there were one of the best all-round teams in Dota 2 in 2019. Every single player from their current roster is outstanding, but if there is one that does stands out more than the rest, it has to be Zhang “Eurus” Chengjun (a.k.a Paparazi).
This Chinese carry player has proven himself as one of the strongest cores in the region. With his lead, Vici Gaming is the best Chinese team right now. After all, they completely annihilated the competition in the ONE Esports Dota 2 World Pro Invitational, in a run through the lower bracket that will be talked about for many months to come.
In this coming year, expect to see more great things, and an high finish in this year’s TI10 for VG, thanks to their superstar carry.
Nikolay “Nikobaby” Nikolov , the strongest carry in Dota 2 in 2019?
Last, but certainly not least, we have the newest Bulgarian pro-Dota 2 player – Nikolay “Nikobaby” Nikolov . Famous for being called the “prison Arteezy”, Nikobaby is one of the most notable newcomers in the professional Dota 2 scene.
After making his Major tournament debut at TI9 for Mineski, Nikobaby has transformed into the hardest carry on Alliance, a team which is focused around him. He’s one of the best European carries right now, and has proven himself in multiple tournaments in a row. Nevertheless, there are still people who think that he doesn’t have what it takes to be the best. Perhaps that criticism stems from his cocky character, or the fact his full potential remains unknown.
The next challenge ahead of Niko and his team is the Leipzig Major. It will be the second Major of the 2019-2020 DPC season, and with a huge lineup of top teams, it will be tournament of absolutely epic proportions. But most importantly for Nikobaby, it’s another chance for Alliance and young carry player to shine.

It’s been an amazing 2019, and we truly hope 2020 will be filled with even more incredible Dota moments. The Dota 2 action will resume on the January 9 with the WePlay! Bukovel Minor.
