GranDGranT dropped by Evil Geniuses in sexual harassment scandal

The last couple of days have been a rollercoaster for the Dota 2 professional scene. Sexual harassment is an issue that persists almost everywhere, but we haven’t seen many large scandals within the esports casting space – until now.

Two women recently decided to open up about their experiences of sexual harassment within the Dota 2 production space. There were several tweets and ongoing discussions around the subject, but one name clearly stood out – Grant”GranDGranT” Harris, with both women accusing the professional caster of sexual harassment and misconduct.

GranDGranT is one of the most recognizable names in Dota 2. He’s appeared as a caster in almost every large-scale event that the game has hosted in the last couple of years. However, after these recent revelations, it seems that his career in Dota is likely over.

As he jumped on Twitter to write an apology, one of the biggest Dota 2 organizations decided to take action immediately. As a result, GranDGranT is no longer a part of the EG organization where he worked as a streamer.

We can’t say we’re surprised by EG’s swift action. EG is too large of a company to not take action right away. It’s sad to see one of the biggest names in Dota 2 going down under such circumstances. If what he’s been accused of is true, then there’s little room for forgiveness and certainly no way back into the professional Dota space.

After what’s happened, more women are opening up about issues that they’ve had while working in esports and the gaming industry. Unfortunately, since this has occurred among the Dota 2 community, it’s very likely we’ll see cases elsewhere.
