G2 Esports have defeated Fnatic to become the LEC 2020 Spring Champions, sweeping their opponents in three straight games. The win came after a dramatic lower bracket run for G2 that saw the team fend off Origen and MAD Lions on their way to victory.
In three straight games, the reigning European champions defended their title in a typically dramatic fashion. With outlandish picks such as Trundle and lighthearted and fun playstyle, the team dominated Fnatic in a very one-sided final.

The victory marks G2’s third straight LEC Championship, having won the title in LEC 2019 Spring and Summer. G2 is the first team to achieve a feat like this since Fnatic won the first three splits of the EU LCS in Spring 2013, Summer 2013, and Spring 2014.
The win also brings an end to one of the most tumultuous seasons in League history for both G2 and the LEC as a whole. The unique online setting of the finals tournament meant that there was nothing typical about this end to the split. Not only did G2 and Fnatic play their games secluded in their team houses, but a courier carrying the trophy was located in between both locations, allowing for the teams to be delivered their prize as quickly as possible.

Fun fact: we had a courier waiting at the exact midpoint between FNC and G2's playing locations with the trophy in the backseat. Real heroes behind the scenes enabling us to get the trophy to G2 following their game-winning conclusion! #LEC #G2WIN

The status of the LEC 2020 Summer Split remains in flux, as the Coronavirus and the global issues it’s created continue to affect professional LoL. However, even with this uncertainty looming over proceedings, G2 are elated at their victory. Now all that remains is to see if the team can secure a fourth consecutive title.
