FC Schalke 04 and Konstantinos-Napoleon “FORG1VEN” Tzortziou have announced that the star ADC player will step down from the main roster ahead of LEC Week Four.
The move comes just three weeks into return for the Greek ADC, who missed the entirety of the 2018 and 2019 seasons serving his mandatory military service. The absence was an anomaly for European League of Legends scene, where only a few countries have mandatory service, in contrast to the LCK in Korea where it is a constant issue.
In his post, Forgiven cites a lack of competitive spirit from his current team. “In my 7+ [year] LoL career I always played to win and be competitive. As of now at least, [the] current roster doesn’t fit this principle.” This flat-out criticism of the team has drawn the ire of both fans and analysts of the league.
Schalke’s start to the season has been far from ideal thus far. The squad has an abysmal 0-6 record, having failed to record a single win thus far.
What’s more the team’s overall KDA has been terrible, with a combined record of 0/16/0 and 6/18/11 in their last two loses. The former of the two scores is particularly bitter, as this no kill, no assist game came at the hands of a decidedly average Misfits Gaming roster.
With Forg1ven stepping down, academy player Nihat “Innaxe” Aliev will step up for the ailing Schalke. What’s more, a ray of hope in the form of Erberk “Gilius” Demir has also appeared for the team, with the player’s visa issues finally being resolved.
That said, even with a new face at ADC and their starting Jungler debuting, Schalke will have an uphill battle ahead of them. The standard of play in the LEC this season has already been incredibly high, with a four-way tie for second, and multiple teams vying for a top spot. And that’s without considering the flawless G2 Esports, who continued their undefeated streak.
Week 4 of the LEC kicks off tomorrow 17:00 GMT, with MAD Lions taking on Origen. Schalke will test it’s new roster for the first team against the 3-3 Rogue, a team on the cusp of greatness, but who’ve lost the last two games they’ve played.
